Despite its delicate appearance, silk is very robust, in fact its thread is equal to the strength of a steel or wire of the same diameter. Its smooth surface also is great at resisting soil and oder too.
Because of its natural protein structure, silk is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics which means it won't irritate sensitive skin. Silk is free of chemicals and contains only natural substances. The fibre is similar to human hair, containing 97% protein, 3% fat and wax, its also has 18 amino acids, which have a positive effect on a persons skin.
An all climate fabric, its natural temperature regulating properties give silk the paradoxical ability to cool and warm simultaneously. Warm and cosy in winter and cool and comfortable in summer. Silk worn as a second layer warms without being bulky.
Silk is highly absorbent and dries quickly. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. Silk will absorb perspiration whilst letting your skin breathe.
Silk is surprisingly easy to care for and will retain its beauty for years - in fact, thats why silk is so often used in legacy and heirloom pieces that are passed down from generation to generation. (Something we are a big believer in). It is a truly timeless textile, lending itself to a variety of uses from Casual, everyday clothing to formal attire for special occasions.
